Choochoo-ca-Chew is nominated for Liebster Award!

WOW! Someone just nominated for a award!!! The Liebster award! It’s nothing fancy like the Oscar but I am still SO EXCITED and psyched to share this with you. It’s a small step that hopefully leads to a big leap and it is made possible because of you, you’re reading my blog.

I was nominated for the Liebster award by Santiwijoyo Salim(lets just call him YUYU), the blogger behind TypeEighty. This is how he describes himself and his blog:

“With a strong passion for new ideas, problem-solving, minimalistic design, and home office decor, I started Type Eighty as a space where I share tips, ideas, and products from around the web focusing on home office and workspace for a more productive you.”

His blog is clean and sophisticated, with really helpful information that you just might need in daily life. I love his posts on work space decorations and organization tips, I feel like I can use those tips in my kitchen too!

For those of you who doesn’t know about the Liebster award, here is a little introduction on the award:

What is the Liebster Award?

  • Display the award on your blog — by including it in your post and/or displaying it using a “widget” or a “gadget”.

  • Provide 10 random facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 5 – 11 blogs that you feel deserve the award, who have a less than 200 followers.

I suppose this is a good opportunity for you to get a little sneak peak behind the scene, HERE WE GO!!

Favorite BlogS!

I tried, I really did. I simply couldn’t pick just ONE blog!! There were three on the top of my list and I love them for different reasons.

  • Sally’s Baking Addiction

My go to website when I’m craving sweets! (and to cure my less significant baking addiction comparing to Sally). I love her blog for the colorful layout, mouthwatering sweets and most of all her down to the detail on baking science. What makes soft cookies soft? Which ingredient makes it chewy? What role does sugar play in a certain recipe? She’s got it all and it is amazing! I love experimenting with recipes, so she provides an amazing guide for that.

  • Pinch of Yum

Perhaps this blog is my favorite just because the bloggers are in Minnesota(where I am right now), or I just love their genuine posts on food photography and making a profit through a blog. They share their detailed income and traffic report which I love since I would like to have an income through this blog someday. So I guess I can say that Pinch of Yum are my role model.

  • A Hungry Girl’s Guide to Taipei

OK, I’ve changed my answer to my third favorite blog… It totally slipped my mind since I was only thinking about “recipes” and “cooking bloggers”. But SERIOUSLY, this was one blog I followed almost religiously when I lived in Taipei. She blogs about all kinds of food in Taipei, whether you’re looking for Taiwanese, western or creative cuisines she’s got it all. Usually detailed explanation and lots of photos. Great place to get a feel on what’s “Taiwanese” food too. (Click on the Taiwanese tab on the right sidebar) It is almost an encyclopedia of Taiwanese food it’s amazing and will definitely make you drool.

10 Random Facts About Me

  1. It takes me an average of 5 hours to finish my morning latte. (I get distracted)
  2. I’m not very tolerant with sweetness. I will drink a whole bottle of water with a bite of chocolate because it’s too sweet.
  3. My current shoe collection: 3 pairs of boots and a pair of sneakers.
  4. I stopped eating seafood after I got my divers license.
  5. I bought a longboard so I can get around the neighborhood but I’m too scared to skate down the hill I live on.
  6. I enjoy being on my own.
  7. I don’t have a wok in the kitchen but probably need one.
  8. 80% Vegetarian.
  9. Don’t like following trends, but fall for them sometimes.
  10. Hate it when people call me a Chinese

Answers for My Nomination

1. What is your favourite book or series?

Dream of the Red Chamber(紅樓夢). This is one of the most famous Chinese literature of all time. I love this book for it’s detailed description on the characters, events, decoration and the era, really brings you back in time. The story line is interesting but sad, seeing a big and powerful family going from everything to nothing. Another thing I love this series is the beautifully written poetry, you may really need to read it in Chinese to understand the essence but it’s still worth reading in English. Before I got into Dream of the Red Chamber, my favourite book used to be Harry Potter :p

2. When do you find time to blog?

I’m now trying to force myself to blog 3 times a week. I’m really bad at being productive when I don’t set a goal or schedule for myself. I find time by trying to make Choochoo-ca-chew my full-time job! I find that it’s not the blogging that’s hard, it’s finding the motivation.

3. What do you struggle the most with blogging?

Not generating enough traffic. I find that very defeating yet the methods I’ve been trying has their limits and I’m not sure how to improve the results.

4. What would make you give up blogging?

NOTHING!!!!

5. What is that one post made by you that you like the most, and why?

This is a hard question since I don’t think I have one I like the most, I like a few of them for different reasons… But maybe SAN-BEI CHICKEN 三杯雞, since it’s one of my mom’s signature dish and a Taiwanese classic. Such a great dish for fall. 😉

6. If you could have 1 lunch with any famous person of your choice, who would that be and why?

Probably no one because I think it sounds awkward.

7. What is the most extreme thing you have ever done?

Extreme according to whom? There’s surfing, there’s diving, there’s solo traveling and there’s solo backpacking without telling my parents when I was 19 and there’s climbing up a giant cliff in the middle of the night in Sri Lanka to eat fried rice with my hand(and being fed by a stranger’s hand)…

8. If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?

Wolverine. Chopping veggies would be so much easier and faster.

Questions for My Nominees

  1. What’s your favorite type of food?
  2. What’s your favorite ingredient to work with?
  3. What’s your favorite recipe?
  4. Name your go-to place for grocery shopping.
  5. What are you having for breakfast tomorrow?

Journey to the Garden

” Green doesn’t necessarily mean bland or boring and while we’ve done our utmost to share recipes which are made from fresh and nutritious ingredients.” To be honest, I didn’t even realize that I had stumbled upon a vegetarian blog until I read the site’s tag line. Journey to the Garden features recipes like Sun-Dried Tomatoes ProvençalMaple Rosemary Almonds, and Gnocchi with Tomatoes and Basil. They also talk about CHEESEEE! Who can say no to cheese?

Homecooked History

I love old cookbooks. There may not be a lot of pretty pictures, but they are pure and straight forward. Plus who doesn’t like grandma’s chicken soup? But Grandma’s recipe can also be terrifying at times. Homecooked history is testing old family recipes with modern photography to show you what works and what doesn’t. (I’d say everything looks yummy to me!) HARVEY WALLBANGER SUPREME CAKE tastes like creamsicle with a kick(there’s booze in the cake…AND the glaze!); SKILLET LASAGNA eliminates all the typical time in the oven as you prep and cook everything on the stove; SHEPHERD’S PIE, my love, made with beef instead of the traditional lamb, covered with creamy mashed potatoes, handwritten with love by grandma. Can’t get enough of it.

The Recipe Revival

Reviving recipes from both grandmas! Grandma J’s recipes are family friendly recipes that were simple and easy; grandma A’s cooking are the more fancy, lots-of-ingredients types of recipes. With The Recipe Revival, you get the best of both worlds. Try recipes such as BISCUITS AND GRAVY (with SLOW ROASTED BEEF TIPS added on top! Too much? NEVER!), PUMPKIN BUTTERSCOTCH POKE CAKE, and CHICKEN DUMPLING SOUP!!! I’ve just had dinner but I want to go grocery shopping and cook ALL OF THIS up right now!

Final Thoughts

I’ve been avoiding blogger outreach because I thought I wasn’t ready. Then I was nominated for Liebster award which kind of forced me to reach out to fellow bloggers and I realized how much I was missing out! It was such a amazing journey to check out other blogs and how fantastic everyone is. I’m very glad to be part of this, being nominated and reaching out to all you beautiful bloggers. Can’t wait to learn and grow with you all.
